Custom Pool & Interlocking Patio Entertaining Space

This large, Scarborough, Ontario custom-built home posed many challenges for their hardscaping, landscaping and pool installation, but, with a large family to entertain, it was imperative we were able to make all their wishes come true.

In addition to a 20’ by 40’ inground swimming pool, this project was to include bullnose pool coping caps for the pool, an interlocking patio stone deck, hot tub, custom lighting, shrubs & plants, interlocking stone walkway and more.

Our first obstacle was that this property had many large trees, and, although beautiful, large trees create landscaping and hardscaping challenges with regard to large tree routes and avoiding causing any damage to the trees. With large trees come large branches, so positioning the pool and hardscaping perfectly was imperative to avoid the possibility of potentially being guarded by the large overhanging tree branches and blocking the sunshine.

This property also had a septic tank, so in order to comply with setback requirements we had to perfectly position the pool to avoid tree coverage yet be outside of setback requirements.

As well, the local conservation authority caused a setback to the project by limiting the location of the pool and all hardscaping / landscaping work.

The high water table posed an additional challenge – and could have meant an issue surrounding the depth of the pool – but we took preventative measures by inserting a hydrostatic valve and weeping tiles to help combat the abnormally high water table.

With the pool equipment being located near the detached garage, we needed to increase our services with electrical and gas so they could be run to the garage from the house. The existing fence unfortunately did not meet local bylaws, so we needed to retrofit and install a new one.

With every challenge faced, we were always able quickly and efficiently provide effective solutions.

As much as the functionality of a given space is important, executing a beautiful design is just as important and that is precisely just what we accomplished with this project: A nice linear visual from the kitchen window meeting all design elements with a functional space to entertain their large family for years to come.
